WFI Imaging Mode User Guide
The Wide Field Instrument (WFI) is the main instrument on the Roman Space Telescope, offering imaging and spectroscopic capabilities in the IR. The WFI imaging mode will produce images with resolution similar to that of NIR capabilities in the Hubble Space Telescope, but over a field of view 200 times larger than that of WFC3/IR.
WFI Imaging Mode User Guide Table of Contents
Below is a listing of the articles in the WFI Imaging Mode User Guide that are currently published in RDox.
Under Construction
The WFI Imaging Mode User Guide is currently being developed and written. Please note that some topics are not yet available, and that some details will change during ground testing and commissioning.
The WFI Documentation Ecosystem
As of this writing, the WFI is being integrated into the other components of the observatory and detailed testing on the ground will occur into 2025. While we anticipate Roman Documentation (RDox) to become the primary resource on the WFI for most science users, it is still under construction and some users may find the most relevant information for their purpose in content held outside of RDox as shown in the WFI Documentation Ecosystem Table below.
Table of the WFI Documentation Ecosystem
Content | Links to Material not on RDox | Description |
---|---|---|
Mission Reference Information | Goddard Space Flight Center maintains much of the technical information for Mission reference information. | |
Technical Reports and Documents | The Science Operations Center (SOC) at STScI publishes Technical Reports and other formal presentations on the characterization | |
Documentation on the Spectroscopic Mode | The Science Support Center (SSC) at IPAC maintains the technical information relevant to the spectroscopic modes of WFI. |
Roman Technical Working Groups
Members of the community can participate in Roman Technical Working Groups that have regular updates on the development, characterization, and calibration of the instrument. Interested users can use the Roman Technical Working Group Sign Up Form to join any of the groups. The Technical Working Groups contribute to the Roman Documentation Ecosystem in the following two ways:
- The Working Groups maintain an archive of additional technical information and reports that are accessible to participants.
- Semi-regular reports from these groups are presented and archived at the Roman Community Forum.
